Don’t Be Your Own Boss: Why You Need a Coach or Mastermind
One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is, “I can do this alone.”
You can be talented, driven, and full of good ideas, but still get stuck in the same patterns. We all have blind spots. We all find ways to put off the hard thing, talk ourselves out of a big move, or settle for what feels comfortable. That’s why accountability matters.
A coach or mastermind gives you two things that are hard to create on your own:
A fresh perspective. Someone outside your head can help you spot the patterns you keep missing, ask the question you’ve been avoiding, and challenge the story you’re telling yourself.
A reason to follow through. When you say your goal out loud and agree to check back in, it gets harder to quietly move the goalpost or let the week slip away.
That doesn’t mean you need someone to run your life for you. The right coach or group helps you get clearer about what you want, make a plan, and keep showing up for it. You still have to do the work. But you don’t have to do all the thinking, troubleshooting, and recommitting by yourself.
And yes, it takes an investment. But consider what it costs to keep circling the same goal without making progress: the time, the missed opportunities, and the energy you spend starting over. Good support can help you move with more clarity and consistency. That’s not a guarantee of overnight results. It’s a way to give your goals a better chance.
You don’t need to wait until you’re completely stuck to ask for help. Find a coach whose approach fits you, or gather a small group of people who are serious about doing the work. Be honest about what you want. Make commitments you can keep. Then show up for the conversations, even when you don’t have a perfect update.
Growth takes effort. Community helps you keep going when your own momentum runs low.
